10 Great holiday gifts for the Producer in your life. [UPDATED]
We’ve updated this blog with the best Broadway gifts on the market in 2018. Enjoy!
Got a Broadway Producer or a budding Broadway Producer on your list this year? Or maybe you are a Producer and you never know what to say when mom asks, “What do you want this year?”
Well, I’ve done some research for you and come up with these 10 great Christmas/Hanukkah/any holiday gifts for the Broadway, Off-Broadway or any Producer that you might know.
Full Wall Street-like disclosure: I do have an interest in #1 and #2 . . . but I still think they are great gifts. 😉
1. Be A Broadway Star Board Game
Most Producers started out as actors somewhere along the way. Find your Producer’s inner Ethel Merman by playing Be A Broadway Star. Get the game here. A close second to this is the Wii Broadway Dance game.
2. A Playbill Binder
Playbills are probably the one thing on the planet that is given away free, yet is priceless to a Broadway fan (especially a NEW Broadway fan). Protect them in this binder that includes free sheet protectors!
3. A Broadway Puzzle
If you’re like me, then holiday times at the parents’ house includes puzzles. So forget about the ones with windmills and skylines, how about one featuring Broadway stars!
4. Broadway Nail Decals
Need a stocking stuffer or a Broadway Secret Santa gift? This is it because it’ll come in under ANY budget.
5. iPad or Kindle
Producers hate to check bags. Producers love to read scripts. Carry hundreds or thousands on an iPad or a Kindle, and you can travel light while still searching for the next Rent. Get the iPad here or the Kindle here.
6. Membership in the Broadway League
There are many different types of memberships to the Broadway League, including Affiliate and Adjunct Memberships. So even if your Producer doesn’t qualify for Full Membership, you might be able to get them in at a lower tier. So you won’t get Tony Voter status. Big deal. You’ll get plenty of networking opportunities with actual Tony winners. See the types of memberships here.
This book is never too far from my desk. It’s a blueprint for drama, and is great when I’m writing, noting, or just plain bored. Buy the book here.
8. Netflix
A lot of musicals are made from movies or television shows. See them first on Netflix.
9. A “Fancy” Pen
I never understood the value of a nice pen, until someone gave me one for the holidays. I was a Bic Rollerpoint guy my entire life. But now, I never go to a meeting without my Mont Blanc in hand. It was never something I would have bought myself, which is why it makes a perfect gift.
10. Tickets to . . . anything.
Theater tickets are expensive, we all know that. So any Producer would be happy to have his cost of seeing shows subsidized by some holiday gift giving. Check out Telecharge.com for Gift Cards to Broadway or Off-Broadway shows. If everyone reading this blog bought a pair of tickets for just one person for the holidays, why, we’d make a significant impact on the grosses. So let’s do it!

Podcasting
Ken created one of the first Broadway podcasts, recording over 250 episodes over 7 years. It features interviews with A-listers in the theater about how they “made it”, including 2 Pulitzer Prize Winners, 7 Academy Award Winners and 76 Tony Award winners. Notable guests include Pasek & Paul, Kenny Leon, Lynn Ahrens and more.
