5 More Takeaways from the Get Your Show Off The Ground Seminar.
Over 100 people have taken the seminar, and this past weekend, we had another eight assemble in my conference room to talk about the obstacles that were in the way of their shows getting off the ground. And then we figured out how to blow those obstacles out of the way. We talked about marketing, how to raise money, how to deal with difficult investors, how to find a director and a book doctor, and so much more.
And as I’ve done with the past GYSOTG seminars, I took down just five of the many takeaways that we talked about to post here for your pleasure. And they are . . .
1. If you are self-producing your own work, you need to be even more critical than you would about someone else’s.
2. It’s easier to raise $10 million for a Broadway show than it is to raise $1 million for an Off Broadway show.
3. The guy who said, “Never put your own money in a show!” was a Comedian, not a Producer.
4. One of the first questions a star will have when asked about doing a show is, “Who is directing?”
5. Selling a show to a potential investor or anyone is like improv. Your answers always have to be, “Yes and . . . “
Hope these help you in your journey to getting your idea, script, etc. off the ground. I remember how hard it was for me to get motivated and find specific answers to my problems, which is why I developed this seminar in the first place.
