5 Takeaways from the latest Get Your Show Off The Ground seminar!

And when I sat down this past Saturday with eight passionate producers, writers, actors, and directors (and sometimes all of those combined), I realized how much I missed these seminars!
As with all the “Get Your Show . . . ” seminars, we heard a bit about each person’s project and then I asked them to tell me the #1 obstacle that they were facing. Then we came up with a strategy to destroy that obstacle. And destroy we did!
As I’ve done in the past, below are five takeaways we talked about that I thought might help you in your journey to get your show/project/lemonade stand off the ground. Here we go . . .- Sending your script to theaters is like an actor sending out pictures and resumes. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s like a lottery ticket.
- Don’t have a “backers audition” unless you know exactly what you’re raising money for.
- A great creative team starts with a Director. Get the right guy or gal on board at the top, and the other team members will fall into place like dominos.
- It’s ok to fantasize, as long as you’re ok if that fantasy (getting Tom Cruise to play the lead in your play, etc.) doesn’t come true.
- Don’t judge your own work too harshly. There are plenty of other people who are going to judge it for you.
Those are just a few of the nuggets that popped out during Saturday’s session. If you want to hear some of these live and in person, register for the next seminar here.
