Manager of Individual Giving – Playwrights Horizons

WHO: Playwrights Horizons, an award-winning Off Broadway theater company, (www.playwrightshorizons.org) seeks an experienced fundraising professional to plan and implement strategy for sustaining and building its individual giving program.

ABOUT THE COMPANY/JOB: Playwrights Horizons is a 39 year-old Off-Broadway theater that discovers, develops and produces the new work of emerging and established American playwrights and musical theater artists. Playwrights Horizons is one of the country’s most respected theaters focused on the development of new work. The company produces 6 shows a year, commissions and develops new plays and musicals, runs an undergraduate theater school in conjunction with New York University, and operates Ticket Central, a low-cost box office that serves the entire New York City not-profit performing arts community. The five person Development Department is responsible for raising dollars for annual programs in addition to meeting capital and endowment needs.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Manager of Individual Giving is responsible for more than $850K in contributed revenue annually. The Manager oversees a growing Patron Program, a young Patron group, 2-3 direct mail campaigns, and is responsible for the individual giving component of two major special events. The Manager also plans and implements smaller events directly related to individual donor cultivation and is responsible for maintaining an effective prospect management system. The Manager oversees an Associate, has good working relationships with senior program heads and Board of Trustees, and enjoys meaningful contact with donor base.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum of 4 years experience in fundraising with emphasis in individual giving.
• Detail-oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Some management experience preferred.
• Interest in special event creation and management.
• Comfortable with creating and monitoring income and expense budgets.
• Creative, strategic thinker, able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency on Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel ) and wealth screening software. Graphic design experience a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree.
