Broadway Grosses w/e 7/08/2018: No real fireworks for the Fourth.
Fourth of July is a nailbiter for most shows. You walk into the week with a lower than average advance, and you wait for walk-up at your box office and the TKTS booth.
And, usually, it turns out alright.
This Fourth proved a bit more challenging than most, with the aggregate box office dropping over 11% from the week before (I blame it on the 4th being on hump day and creating an awkward work week for most).
The shows that failed to light a fuse this week were the ones most dependent on local business, while the tourist shows did just fine. (Worth noting that of all the shows running this week, only 5 of them were plays . . .and two of them, my The Play That Goes Wrong and Harry Potter are really in a category of their own).
