Broadway Grosses w/e 10/1/2017: So long September, you will NOT be missed.
Another $800k disappeared from the grosses this week, as we lost another 3% from the previous week’s totals. The cause of the drop was mostly due to Yom Kippur, which occurred much earlier in the season than last year, and had a double whammy impact on the slow September month.
The shows that suffer the most during these times are the ones that do the best when schools are out . . . the family shows.
Several shows were resistant to the seasonal downswing including the usual suspects, but I remain impressed by A Bronx Tale‘s $713k, Beautiful‘s $890k and did anyone notice that Book of Mormon is still doing way over $1mm a week, despite being over six years old?
And expect ALL of these grosses to jump up big time this week, as we cruise into Columbus Day. The first 3-day weekend of the Fall will bring the tourists back to the city. Let’s hope they come with enough juice to make up for some of the losses that so many shows endured throughout the September month.
