Broadway Grosses w/e 3/08/2020: An uptick amidst the unknown.
Despite four additional productions starting previews this week, grosses ticked up only 2% totaling $26.7M. Family shows including Disney’s offerings were hit hard. High average tickets for Company and The Lehman Trilogy indicate strong interest during their preview periods. While many shows benefited from day-of business last week, their audience is bound to decrease in the coming weeks as travel restrictions and worry set in.
When crisis hits New York, Broadway is historically a beacon that guides the city’s commerce and confidence. The effect the virus will have on Broadway shows can’t be known, but for now, there are great deals out there and an industry that needs your support.
