Broadway Grosses w/e 4/22/2018: It’s coming down to the wire.
Last week was the penultimate week before this year’s Tony nominations are announced, and like most things that are next-to-last, it was fairly uneventful.
The usuals did the usual, but what was impressive to me was Kinky Boots at $911k (boosted by its 5 year anniversary no doubt), School of Rock at $917k and newcomer Summer at $962k.
All the Producers I know are bracing themselves for the May slump . . . or what I call, “The calm before the summer storm,” as tourists tend to stay home tending to their graduations, dance recitals, communions, and more.
But, as we proved here, the shows that own the Tony nomination headlines can get a nice boost from the number of nods they get.
So we’ll be watching the #s in the coming weeks of those shows that get lots of kudos.
