Broadway Grosses w/e 7/22/2018: Look who’s back in town.
Grosses were up a whopping 17% from last season, mostly thanks to the return of The Divine Miss M to Hello Dolly. (From what I hear, she’s so made the role her own, there’s a petition circling to change the title of the show to Hello, Bette!)
And while the big branded tourist musicals did the best in the last seven days, I’ll admit, I expected to see more post numbers greater than $1mm.
That said, our tally is still up 14.6% over last year (with special thanks to the four new shows this summer, including mine). But more importantly, attendance is up 1.4%.
The more butts in the seats today, the greater our audience is tomorrow.
