Broadway Grosses w/e 8/6/2017: August is upon us.
It’s hard to believe that the first week of August is already over and done with. But gone it is, and it took the best performing weeks of the year with it.
We dropped 1.5% from the last week in July, which ain’t bad, but it is an indicator of the slip ‘n slide to come. Expect us to continue to lose some ground each and every week as we head towards Labor Day.
Big winners this past week were my own Kinky Boots, doing $1.64mm as Brendon Urie kicked up his heels for the last time, Indecent, which grossed over $700k as it played its final performance (for real, this time), and the usual heavy hitters (I haven’t mentioned Wicked in a while- it is still flying high, doing $1.95mm).
By the look of some of the numbers, I do expect we’ll see some theatrical vacancies announced in the next week or so. Because if a show is having some trouble now, you can only imagine what September will look like.
Enjoy what is left of your summer! Because…yes, I’m watching Game of Thrones…and winter is coming.
