So you want to work in the entertainment industry?

Based on the emails I get, I know that a lot of you are looking to work in this sexy biatch of an industry.  I know, I know, it seems so cool, and fun and mysterious.

It’s a very closed door industry.  We don’t let a lot of people in.  But the good news is that if you manage to wedge open that door and sneak yourself inside, the door slams shut behind you and we never let you out.

But what’s it like inside that room?  What is it like working in the biz?  Is it all opening night parties and free swag?  Or is it 90 hour work weeks and Devil Wears Prada-like duties . . . for a couple hundred bucks a week and no health insurance?

Leave it to my good buddy Damian Bazadona (also known as “DBaz” to his friends) to want to find out the specific answers to these and a whole bunch of other questions about working in the entertainment industry.  (If you don’t know Damian, well, he is one of the co-founders of TEDxBroadway, runs a major entertainment marketing firm, and gave one of the best and most actionable answers for how we can grow our audience when he was a guest on my podcast.)

So Damian did what Damian does . . . and did a survey of almost 500 entertainment industry professionals to ask things like:

  • How many hours a week do you work?  And who works more, younger or older folks?
  • What kind of degrees do people that work in the biz have?  And is there a difference between men and women?

And my favorite . . .

  • When was the last time you cried?

These answers and a ton more were published Monday on HuffPo in an article by DBaz himself.  It’s an interesting and fun read, and is very insightful if you’re looking to work in our closed door industry, or if you just want to know more about the person in the cubicle next to you.
