Why I’m Co-Producing Oh Mary On Broadway

Every so often, I partner with other Producers on a show coming to Broadway.  This season, I’ve got a few of them.  (Stay tuned for those announcements later.)

But this article is talking about the extraordinary Oh Mary . . . by the extraordinary genius Cole Escola.

When I decide to co-produce a show, I’m going to tell you here . . . and more importantly, tell you why . . . since so many of the questions I get asked here and on my social is how do I decide what shows to produce.

With Oh Mary, it was an Oh No Brainer.

Yes, the reviews were great.  Yes, the awards rolled in.

But it was the word of mouth that got me . . . and so many others, since it sold out every seat and then some downtown, and extended, and extended, and extended.

Word of mouth is what sells tickets . . . and when multiple people were emailing, calling, throwing rocks at me to get my attention to see if I saw the show . . . I recognize the makings of something very special.

Add that to the unbelievably unique experience that the show is  . . . and that there’s never been anything like it . . .  you’ve got the makings of other shows of its type . . . Avenue Q, Play That Goes Wrong, etc., etc.

So I got involved, thanks to an offer from the show’s Lead Producers, Kevin McCollum, Lucas McMahon, Mike Lavoie, and Carlee Briglia (who have an incredible eye) and thanks to my producing partner, Adam Riemer who saw it before I did!  (Even Producers respond to word-of-mouth . . . and get involved as Producers!)

And it starts previews tonight.

If you missed it downtown, and you probably did since no one could get in . . . you have only 12 weeks to catch it on Broadway.

Get your tickets here.  And then let me know what you think.

See you there.
