Galileo – Photo/Resume Request
WHO: Classic Stage Company
SEEKING: Seeking the following only (read character descriptions carefully; submit only if you are right for one or more roles, and you are available to work throughout the contract dates):
Virginia:
Woman, 20s. Galileo’s daughter. A voice of complacency and reaction, the nagging specter of the Church in Galileo's home. When young, she asks her father to explain his discoveries; he bluntly refuses, leading her to side with the Church. She is engaged to Ludovico. Ludovico breaks off the engagement when Galileo starts his research again, and Virginia resents her father for it.
Ludovico:
Man, 30s. A pupil of Galileo’s, from a wealthy family in Florence. Not too bright. Ignorantly tells Galileo about the initial invention of telescope that he saw in Amsterdam. Through the course of the play, he falls in love and becomes engaged to Virginia. Not wanting scandal, Ludovico breaks off the engagement when Galileo starts his research again.
Little Monk:
Man, mid – late 20s. A fan of Galileo’s findings. He shares this with Galileo, and tells him about the famous astronomer, Christopher Calauvinus. He is curious, hopeful, but extremely realistic. He and Galileo later discuss the socio-economical changes that the Copernicus theory will bring. He admits the advantages, but still tells Galileo that the Church will never accept it.
