A week in the life of a Broadway Producer.

If you haven’t been reading the blog day-in and day-out over the last week, let me do a little wrap up for you.  In the last 7 or so days, I’ve . . .

  • Announced that I signed on as a Producer for The Bridges of Madison County on Broadway.
  • Announced that after nine years, my first show, The Awesome 80s Promis closing on November 2nd.
  • Spent hours in a dark theater teching my new show, Gettin’ The Band Back Together which starts performances on Tuesday.
  • Was rejected for the rights to a project that I really, really, really wanted.
  • Got the rights to another project that I wanted even more.
  • And a whole bunch of other big ups and downs.

This ain’t no pity blog, btw.  I’m not telling you about the various swings of my business because I want you to be happy or feel sad for me.  Not at all.

Because, frankly, this kind of thing happens all the time.

And that’s why I’m writing this blog.

Producing is about ups and downs and sideways and backwards and all-the-way-around-wards.  You can be a Tony Award winner one day and closing the same show the next day.   You can return 1000% on one show, and blank the next three.

And while it’s important to celebrate your successes, and learn from your failures, Producers can’t get too up or too down about anything that happens to them in the course of a week . . . or a month . . . or a career.  Because it all could change just like . . .

And well, would you look at that.  My phone just rang.

And my week just changed again.
