Standing still can be more movement than you think.
But I’ve got it bad.
For example, if I have to get from 42nd Street to 59th Street and the subway isn’t in the station, well, shoot, I’m not going to stand there idle . . . doing nothing . . . and just waiting. Waiting is for . . . waiters!
Entrepreneurs don’t wait. They move. They get to where they are going on their own two feet.
So I walk. Because it makes me feel like I’m getting where I need to go. And faster. It puts me in control of my own destiny.
That’s what my obsessive compulsive brain tells me anyway (come on, ya’ll got a little of the OC in you, too – most Type A’s do).
But the fact of the matter is . . . if I was patient, took a deep breath, and waited in that station for a moment, that train would have come and might have gotten me to my destination faster than walking.
And, here’s the big booyah . . . waiting for the train would save me energy.
As an entrepreneur, you’re always going to want to be on the move. Stakes are high. You don’t want to sit around and wait for something to happen . . . because someone else may catch up, right? (Read my favorite Jay Leno quote about “catching up” here.)
It’s true. Moving fast and not standing still is what got my career moving in the first place.
But sometimes you and your projects are better off stopping . . . and standing still. It doesn’t mean you’re not going to get to where you’re going.
In fact, being patient may just get your project produced that much faster.
