In the tight-knit community of Speargrove, Texas where the high school musical is the event of the season, an impending production of Rent shakes the town to its core. Must the show go on?

Speargrove Presents is the fourth installment of New York Theatre Barn's UNTITLED series. UNTITLED 4 focuses on a community divided by a major issue that eventually forces them to come together. This experimental project challenges the process by which we currently develop new work specifically concentrating on the multi-collaboration of every artist involved.

CAST BREAKDOWN
TEENS
Scott Ames – High school senior. An A/V geek who gets cast in the school musical. Everyone thinks he’s gay but he's not – and he’s in love with Caroline. Son of Larry Ames. Bari-Tenor.

Alexandra "Alex" Patterson – High school junior. She just transferred to Texas from Park Slope, Brooklyn, and having a hard time fitting in. Must find creative ways to rebel from her overly liberal mother, Lois. Vocal Range open.

Caroline Barnes – Queen bee of the drama club, she’s a senior now and angry that she was passed over for the lead in last year’s musical. Beautiful, determined, and sometimes selfish, but ultimately sweet. Those wishing to be considered for Caroline should prepare an additional 16 bars of classical soprano (in the style of Gilbert & Sullivan, preferred).

Ricky – High school senior. Your average all-american douchebag. Vocal Range open.

ADULTS
Larry Ames – Scott's father, conservative. He is a former high school football star who now owns a chain of supermarkets. Recently widowed, he has always had a good relationship with his son, but it is strained when they come down on opposite sides of the controversy. Bari-Tenor.

Lois Patterson – Alex's mother, a WASP-y hypnotherapist from Park Slope, having a hard time adjusting to small town Texas. So liberal and open-minded in community affairs, Lois finds herself increasingly distant from her daughter. Vocal Range Open, but most likely an Alto or Mezzo.

The following 2 roles should be played by strong, versatile singer/actors who excel in both comedy and drama. They will embody the entire ensemble as well as featured roles throughout the story.

Male Actor – 30s-40s, to play Mr. Powell, the drama teacher; Dave, Ricky's father and head of the School Board, and a TV newsman. Baritone with a big range.

Female Actress – 30s-40s, to play Mrs. Herrold, the pastor's wife, and Mrs. Nelson, the school principal. Broad Range, both vocally and in performance style. Please prepare 16 bars in the style of Sandi Patty and 16 bars of an uptempo comedic song.

Where: OPEN CALL will be held at Pearl Studios (500 8th Avenue, 4th Floor) Monday February 8th, 10-4pm.

Notes/What to bring: 32 bars of a contemporary music theatre song, unless otherwise noted.
Sides will be made available at www.NYTheatreBarn.org after February 1
