Broadway Grosses w/e 3/11/2018: Has March gone mad?
This past week on Broadway felt like an airplane trying to take off in a snowstorm.
See, this current week is when spring breaks start at various schools across the country. Private high schools and colleges start to send students our way around now, and then public schools will close their doors around Easter time after that.
All that means that blue skies are ahead.
But last week, we were struggling to get our nose up in the air, which wasn’t helped by that actual nor’easter that dumped snow in our backyard and felled trees all over the suburbs.
But the weekend showed some life, which is why we ended up over the previous week, and has us up 15.7% over last year. The week also got an assist from Sara Bareilles’ last few performances (ever?) in Waitress and Frozen’s $1.4mm gross (another Disney show, another $1mm/week gross – how long before it hits $2mm?).
Mean Girls, one of the faves for the Best Musical Tony started previews last night, which means we’ll get another lift next week. Like, could there be a better show for the spring breakers? It’s as if the Producers planned it that way. As if!
