Broadway took its annual Independence Day hit, with total grosses falling to $29.33M and attendance of 258,418 as the holiday week thinned audiences and performance schedules across the 32 productions remaining on the boards. Hamilton proved the most resilient, leading all shows at $2.11M to a packed Richard Rodgers, while The Lion King held at $1.87M at 97% and Death of a Salesman delivered an impressive $1.86M to a sold-out Winter Garden on just seven performances. MJ held near $1.57M at 99%, Oh, Mary! remained at full capacity with $1.53M at the Lyceum, and Ragtime continued to fill the Beaumont at $1.41M. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child held steadily at $1.44M, and Every Brilliant Thing grossed $1.12M to a sold-out Hudson on seven shows.

Declines were otherwise fairly universal, as they historically are around the Fourth. The Rocky Horror Show posted the steepest dollar drop, falling $280K to $936K, followed by The Lost Boys at $269K down to $1.10M and Just in Time, which shed $235K on a shortened week. Schmigadoon! dipped $221K to $908K, Cats: The Jellicle Ball fell $203K to $691K, and Wicked slid $201K to $1.01M. Stranger Things: The First Shadow dropped $161K to $686K and Joe Turner’s Come and Gone gave back $141K to $817K. Compared to the same week last season, grosses were down 9.8% —- a gap shaped as much by the smaller roster of 32 productions as by holiday softness.
