Broadway cooled this week, with overall grosses down 3.91% from last week to $29.79M and attendance slipping by nearly 6,000. The dip was driven largely by declines at several top tourist titles—Wicked, The Lion King, and Aladdin each shed over $185K, reflecting softer late-summer demand. Still, there were bright spots: Gypsy surged $416,583 in its final week, grossing $1.61M and reaching 94% capacity before closing on August 17. Hamilton also bounced back in a big way, climbing $493,145 to $2.19M, making it the top grosser on Broadway this week. Elsewhere, Mamma Mia! officially opened at the Winter Garden on August 14 with a strong $1.61M debut across eight shows, selling out at over 100% capacity. Solid sellouts also continued at Just In Time, which boasted the highest average paid admission on Broadway this past week at $227.49, whereas Maybe Happy Ending continues to show strength with a $1.37M gross.
