Broadway Grosses w/e 12/17/2017: Decadent December.

Everyone thinks that December is the best month of the year.  Historically, however, that hasn’t always been the case.  December has the best WEEK of the year (between Xmas and New Year’s), and a few strong weekends, if we’re lucky . . . but often, the onslaught of holiday parties and actual holidays keep the locals away from the theaters, and the tourists end up just offsetting that.

But not this December.

We haven’t seen any major gross recession this year.  Last week specifically, grosses pulled back only a minor 2.5% and were up over last year’s week by 12.5%.

Anastasia rejoined the million dollar club.  But it was really the week of the “almost” million dollar club members with Cats, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Meteor Shower, School of Rock and Phantom all nipping at the seven-figure mark.

And it’s important to remember, in the age of $2mm and $3mm grosses, that $900k a week is awesome for just about any show.

I’m betting we’ll have more shows in that club this week, and then the week after . . . well, look out, because we’re going to need a new calculator to add up those grosses.

Here are the Broadway grosses from last week:
