Broadway Grosses* w/e 1/22/2017 – The Blessing of a Broadway Hit
Can you believe those numbers? We’re up 35.72% from last year–and there were 9 more shows running this time last year! That my Gross Fans is the blessing of a Broadway hit. There are currently three strong new musicals playing on Broadway that are getting a lot of buzz AND keeping the grosses high–Dear Evan Hansen, A Bronx Tale, and Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. Not to mention all the long-running hits we have playing.
January is usually a tough month for Broadway, and this week was a downward slide…for some. Four shows came to play this past week and were the only ones that showed an increase from last week. Those shows were Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, In Transit, and Oh, Hello (which closed this week).
Another reason why the grosses are down this week is because Broadway Week started last Tuesday, with two-for-one tickets. Broadway Week ends next Sunday, so we’ll get just a few more days out of it, and then things may take a dip.
