Broadway Grosses w/e 2/11/2018: Ok, now that THAT’s over.
I didn’t even want to dignify last week with a post.
Remember when those weeks in January were better than anyone expected? Well, the laws of nature and Broadway have a way of balancing out, and last week, just like the Dow pulled back, so did we.
A whole bunch of shows that usually post seven-figure grosses found themselves around 700k! The only show bucking the trend was that little blue-plate special of a show called Waitress, which banked $1.4mm thanks to its composer, Sara Bareilles, serving up the goods to the sold-out crowd.
Otherwise, there were plenty of sad face emojis being used on Sunday when those final numbers lit up the photos of the Producers.
I guess they could take solace in the fact that everyone was down . . . literally and figuratively. But as I heard one Producer quip to his press agent, “I don’t care that everyone was down. Someone else’s sadness doesn’t pay my show’s bills.”
Yikes.
Luckily, we’ll come roaring back this week(end). We’ll start slow but should finish strong with the long weekend in our sights.
Anyone else ready for spring yet?
