Broadway Grosses* w/e 5/7/2017 – The Award Boost.
This week we can thank the onslaught of all the award nominations for some of the higher grosses…especially the plays. All the nominated plays experienced a jump this week from last, with A Doll’s House experiencing a boost of over 90% from last week.
Audience interests around this time tend to trend towards the new shows, especially since all those shows are advertising like their runs depend on it (in actuality, they’re advertising like their awards depend on it – a much heavily debated issue within the industry).
Although we’re down in attendance from last week, we’re slightly up in grosses and ticket prices. One show to thank for that is (shocking) Hamilton, which burst past $3 million again this week.
