POSITION: Director of Development

DESCRIPTION: Elevator Repair Service Theater (ERS), a New York-based theater ensemble, is currently seeking a Director of Development.

This position offers a unique opportunity to design and execute a strategic fundraising plan as part of one of the foremost experimental ensembles in the world and to take a leadership role within the company, developing and maintaining relationships with institutional partners, individual contributors, the company’s board, ensemble members, and partners.

Responsibilities:
The Director of Development will lead and expand fundraising efforts in support of the organization’s annual operating budget of $800,000+. The successful candidate will be required to:
-Develop with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors a comprehensive fundraising plan and calendar to raise $400,000+ in annual contributions (including benefit and cultivation events, institutional funding, and direct mail and email campaigns).
-Lead all communication, coordination, and activities with the ERS Board of Directors. Lead in the creation of and manage Board driven cultivation goals, events, and campaigns. Work with the Artistic Director and Executive Committee to coordinate Board nomination strategies. Attend all Board and Executive Committee Meetings.
-Create and execute direct mail and email campaigns and manage company’s major gift
program – Insiders. Coordinate and input all donation information and thank you letter creation and distribution in conjunction with Director of Finance & Administration.
-Actively maintain personal relationships with ERS stakeholders (Board, individual
contributors, partners in the field) through regular in-person meetings, lunches, events, email, and phone correspondence.
-Conceive and execute annual fundraising events (benefits, auctions, etc.) in coordination with the Board of Directors.
-Execute and manage all grant application submissions and reporting, including institutional and local, state, and national government funders.
-Serve as company representative in all field related memberships and at events.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of fundraising experience required.
