WHO: Once – Equity Principal Auditions

SEEKING: For possible future replacements in the Broadway production:

Casting Directors’ note: “Interested in actors of all physical types.”

Girl:

Mid – late 20s. Direct, intelligent, no-nonsense and witty. Has had to work hard at life, but doesn’t think she deserves any sympathy. Actress must play the piano and sing extremely well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Guy:

Mid 20s – early 30s. Struggling Irish musician. Lost and a bit sad, but extremely appealing. Works with his Da in a vacuum-repair shop. Actor must sing and play guitar extremely well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Irish accent.

Billy:

Mid 30s-40s. Large Irish man. Owner of the music store where Girl plays piano. Loud, funny and protective of Girl. Actor must sing and play guitar well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Irish accent.

Reza:

Late 20s. Sexy, funny, smart Czech girl. Often a bit larger than life. Actress must sing and play violin/fiddle extremely well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Baruska:

50s up. Mother of Girl. A cool but caring Czech mother who likes a full house and full stomachs. Not many inhibitions. Actress must sing and play the accordion/piano well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Bank Manager:

30/40s. Seems quite prim and proper, but has a secret passion for music. Performer must sing and play guitar & cello well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Irish accent.

Da:

50s up. Guy’s dad. A man of few words, but a lovely and caring father. Actor must play guitar, ukulele/mandolin well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Irish accent.

Svejc:

20s/30s. A real oddball. Loves television and coffee. Actor must play guitar & drum kit extremely well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Andre:

20s. Earnest and kind. An employee at a fast food chain, but has big dreams. Actor must play guitar & bass guitar extremely well, and must be must have (or be able to do) a strong Czech (Eastern European) accent.

Eamon:

30s/40s. The music studio manager where Guy and Girl record their album. A tough nut to crack, but eventually gives in to the musicians’ talents. Actor must sing and play guitar & piano well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Irish accent.

Emcee:

Late 20s-30s. The emcee at a bar. A good-natured ball-buster. Actor must sing and play guitar extremely well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Irish accent.

Ex-Girlfriend:

20s. Guy’s ex-girlfriend who now lives in New York. Kind, lovely and likable. Actress must play violin extremely well, and must have (or be able to do) a strong Irish accent.

Ivanka:

Female child, 6-8 years old. The sweet-natured daughter of Girl. Actress should be comfortable on stage and have the ability to sing. MUST be between 40 and 45 inches tall. Those auditioning as possible future replacements in this role need not sing/bring an instrument; their auditions will consist of being interviewed briefly by casting personnel.

REQUIREMENTS: All: Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back. All actors (except those auditioning for the role of Ivanka; see Ivanka’s description below for instructions) should prepare a short folk/rock song in the style of the show, and MUST accompany themselves while singing on one of the instruments specified below. There will be a piano and guitar in the audition room; any other instruments must be brought to the audition by the actor.
