POSITION: Public Relations Assistant
DESCRIPTION: Richard Kornberg and Associates, a busy performing arts publicity firm located in the heart of Times Square, is currently seeking a full time Public Relations Assistant.
Richard Kornberg and Associates is one of New York City’s premiere press and public relations firms for the performing arts. With over three decades of experience in the theatrical community, RKA has been representing Broadway and off-Broadway productions, not for profit arts organizations and dance companies. These clients include numerous Tony-award winners and nominees including the iconic original production of RENT, Hairspray, Death of a Salesman starring Brian Dennehy, Long Day’s Journey Into Night starring Brian Dennehy, Vanessa Redgrave and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, The Will Rogers Follies, and I am My Own Wife to name a few.
RKA also represents special events and introduced the Spiegeltent to New York City representing Absinthe, La Vie, Desir and Gazillionaire’s Late Nite Lounge. Other special events include David Copperfield’s Broadway debut Dreams and Nightmares, the world premiere production of The Vagina Monologues and the subsequent first all-star V-Day, and Teller’s (of Penn and Teller) Play Dead. Current clients include New York Theatre Workshop (RENT, Once, Peter and the Starcatcher), The Joyce Theater, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater (Buyer and Cellar, The Revisionist), Canada’s Stratford Festival, Berkshire Theater Festival, Transport Group, Pace University’s Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts, Momix, and Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. In addition, RKA represents Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award-winning actors including Estelle Parsons and Brian Dennehy. Helmed by Richard Kornberg, who began his career with Joseph Papp and represented the Public Theater and the New York Shakespeare Festival for over 15 years, Richard Kornberg and Associates continues to provide their clients with unique and innovative services in publicity.
Duties will include but not be limited to: assisting with servicing daily press clippings, compiling, proofreading and distributing press releases, compiling and maintain Playbills, attending and helping cover media events, interviews and promotional appearances, running errands around the Times Square area, managing administrative duties around the office (including answering phones, ordering office supplies, etc), hiring and supervising interns, managing press lists, websites and press materials and providing general assistance to press agents with the ongoing maintenance of their shows.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree (preferably with a focus on communications and/or performing arts), have at least one year of work or internship experience (also preferably in PR and/or the performing arts). Looking for detail-oriented, fast-learners with a genuine interest and knowledge of theatre and/or dance a plus, superior organization and writing skills, professional phone manner, outgoing personality, working knowledge of all Google and Microsoft Office applications, tech savy and knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop a plus.
Salary commiserate with experience.
