The First Pitstop on the Road Trip to Broadway: Behind the Scenes of a Broadway Journey

We’re finishing up the first month of our Road Trip to Broadway series, so I figured it was time for a pitstop. While we’re pulling over to fill up the tank and grab some snacks – here’s what you missed!

Each Mile in this series brings you fresh behind-the-scenes perspectives, candid conversations, and lessons from creators, producers, and collaborators along the way. Whether you’re a theater lover, a theatermaker, or curious about what it really takes to reach Broadway, this is your destination for every milestone we’ve shared so far.

The Weekly Updates

Below are every Mile we’ve shared in short-form across the vertical social media platforms. Each clip highlights a specific insight, moment, or reflection from the road.

Mile 1: What’s Next?

This first vertical video sets the tone for the series, capturing the excitement and palpable energy as the team embarks on their journey toward Broadway, promising viewers a transparent look at every step.

Mile 3: Working On Multiple Shows

In a recent meeting with my marketing team, I was asked about developing multiple shows at the same time. And I talk about taking what I learn from one show and bringing it with me to the next show.

Mile 4: Producing In 2026

Producing new musicals on Broadway in 2026 comes with a very high price tag . . . which means when you’re making a new Broadway musical, you gotta have an edge and you gotta get creative with how you make your show work.

Mile 5: The Out-Of-Town Tryout

While we’re looking ahead, hoping for a Broadway production of The Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation soon (no news yet), I found myself looking back at the developments we’ve made to date. And in this “mile marker”, I shared some of the things we’ve learned about the show and the audience during our out-of-town tryout in 2022 at the 5th Avenue Theatre.

Mile 6: Developing The Key Art

When you have an out-of-town production, you don’t often get to design your own key art (which is the poster for the show), as the theater will want it to be cohesive with the art of their season. But we got lucky, and the great folks at 5th Avenue Theatre said we could BYOA (bring your own art). In this video, I share what we did back in 2022, but more importantly, what we’re doing now to update the art and make it feel fresh.

Mile 7: The Table Read

A few weeks ago, I got the creative team back in a studio to read through the most up-to-date script by the brilliant Rossmer and Rosen. Every new musical goes through rewrites after rewrites after rewrites . . . and it’s important that we hear those words read aloud after a few rounds of changes – especially comedies!

Mile 8: The Show That Changed My Life

During a spontaneous midweek check-in with my team, I was asked what show changed my life. Check out “Mile 8” to hear my answer! (And I can’t wait for The Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation to change someone’s life one day.)

Mile 9: The Cost of Creativity

Can you tell we’re working on the budget for a hopeful Broadway run? In this latest video, we’re talking about whether a big Broadway show always comes with a big price tag.

The Monthly Check In

Although we are sharing quick updates every week on social media, my team wanted to document something more formal to look back on. So we chose to also do a monthly recap series exclusively on YouTube.
