Kevin:
Mid 20s – mid 30s. Soulful, charismatic, intelligent and highly driven young actor. Has the depths of someone who has experienced pain and struggle, but also has the dynamic energy and charm of a potential movie star. Still, even at his most dazzling, there is a sensitivity, sweetness and innocence about him. He's also very perceptive and has a deep longing to connect with others, so he's always searching for the best ways to connect with those around him, even when he's at his lowest. Tries to remain positive and active, no matter how bleak things get.
John:
Legendary film director. 50s or 60s, but has a boy-man quality that makes him seen eternally young. A guy whose idea of dressing up is taking off his baseball cap. Boundless energy and drive, military-level managerial skills, a limitless curiosity and playfulness — but also dark undercurrents that he has trouble sitting still with and is often running away from. Has a deep desire to do meaningful work, but never stops thinking about how to ever-increase his fame and fortune.
Nick:
Mid 20s – mid 30s. Ambitious young actor who hides his ambition with politeness and naïveté. It's not clear how much of his positive energy is an act and how much is genuine. But he appears to be a totally likable guy, sexy and sweet and always trying to keep things fun and light. There is a deep pain in him that he avoids accessing as best he can, but it's always just around the corner and he's in perpetual flight from it. Not as smart as he wants to be, and knows it.
Jen:
Mid 20s – mid 30s. Hard-working, smart, caring, no-nonsense young actress. The kind of beauty that makes her desire to be a movie star realistic, but the sort of edge and awareness that might get in the way a little. Has genuine compassion for Kevin and does her best to be supportive towards him, but there is pain and longing in her own heart that she may not be able to deal with, which Kevin's pain threatens to awaken in her.
TV Personality / Casting Director:
Female characters, mid 40s, played by one actress. Personality: Typical “Entertainment Tonight”-type hack—may be more of a local news version of it. CD: Caring and compassionate; nevertheless needs to get things done and keep things moving. Wishes the industry would see all the things she sees in actors, but knows that it doesn't, and has more or less made peace with that.
