Broadway Grosses w/e 10/29/2017: Dippity, dippity doo.
Halloween isn’t until tonight, but the box office got spooked last week as grosses took a 6.5% tumble from our previous week (probably because a lot of people party on the weekend closest to All Hallows’ Eve, which meant they got all dressed up this past Saturday).
We were still up double digits from the same week last year, as our industry continues to show signs of unprecedented growth (if Broadway were an index fund, I’d be buying it).
And even in the down week, shows like long-running Chicago did over $620k! (I mean, can we talk about how long this sucker has been running . . . will it ever close?)
We’ve got another tough week ahead this coming week, with trick-or-treating tonight (expect family shows to be hurt the most . . . if they even chose to have performances), as well as the NYC Marathon, and daylight savings time (which always seems to align itself with a down week – although no one can prove any causality).
