After Nine Awesome years . . .

The Awesome 80s Prom was my very first show in New York.

After a decade of Company Managing and General Managing Broadway shows and National Tours and dreaming about creating my own, I jumped off the proverbial producing cliff and opened The Prom.

And now, almost a decade later, The Prom will close on November 2nd.

Who would have thought that this little interactive show, born out of a series of improv sessions in a rehearsal studio, and with a capitalization of only $120,000 . . . would run nine freakin’ years, feature Dustin “Screech” Diamond, have a production in Korea (!) and help jump start my producing career  (I didn’t even realize how long it had been until recently when a girl told me she had her Sweet 16 at The Prom  . . . and also her bachelorette party.  Yikes!)

But all awesome things must come to an end.  Unfortunately, The Prom‘s end is a little premature, as we’re getting pushed out of our venue and without a viable alternative, we’ve got no other choice.  We’ll continue to look around, but as all Producers know, at some point, you have to make the decision that you never want to make.  And hey – and, you know what’s even ‘awesomer’ than a nine year run?  You can license The Prom from Samuel French.  Yep, it already has and will continue to be done in high schools and community theaters across the country.

If you haven’t seen The Prom, you’ve got 7 chances left . . . and because you’re one of my readers, I’ll give you a discount. Click here to save and see it for only $25.

Whenever people ask me if I have a favorite show, I always say, “Shows are like kids!  How can I pick my favorite child???”

But then again . . . I think if you pulled any parent aside and had an off-the-record conversation with them and said, “Come on, who’s your favorite?  I won’t tell anyone.  I swear,” they’d probably say they had a special place in their heart for their first born.  Because it was their first.

And, I’ll say it on-the-record.  I don’t care how many shows I produce from here on out, or how successful they are, and how many Awards I win or even if it returns one billion percent.

The Awesome 80s Prom was my first.  And it is my favorite.

For all of you who haven’t had your first, but are dreaming about it like I did.  Go do it.  You never know what will happen.

See you at the Prom!
