POSITION: Artistic Assistant

DESCRIPTION: Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking an ARTISTIC ASSISTANT to provide administrative support for Founding Artistic Director, James Houghton. Founded in 1991, Signature Theatre Company exists to honor and celebrate the playwright, producing seven to nine productions annually; and, in 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. Signature recently opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices.

This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience, and benefits include Health, Dental, Vision, FSA and 401(k) plans.

Responsibilities include:
•Acting as a liaison between the Artistic Director and artists and/or external parties
•Acting as a liaison between the Artistic Director and staff
•Answering the Artistic Director’s phone
•Managing the Artistic Director’s files and archives
•Managing the Artistic Director’s schedule, inbox, contacts, and correspondence, including the drafting of emails, letters, and board meeting updates
•Coordinating the Artistic Director’s internal and external appearances/presentations/speaking engagements
•Coordinating travel, tracking actions items, and performing follow-up
•Handling ticketing requests for the Artistic Director and other Artistic guests
•Tracking and coding expenses
•Updating the biography and resume of the Artistic Director
•Completing other clerical tasks, as needed

The Artistic Assistant will also provide some general assistance for the Associate Artistic Director and general administrative support for the Artistic Department.

Ideal candidates will possess strong phone, computer , written, and organizational skills. Some experience in artistic administration is preferred. Patience and a sense of humor are helpful.
