Broadway inched upward this week as the holiday season continued to build, with total grosses rising 3.08% to $43.94M and attendance climbing to 301,326, pushing overall capacity to 91.28%. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child once again led the pack, topping Broadway at $2.99M while selling out every seat at the Lyric with a $230 average ticket. Close behind were Hamilton ($2.80M, 100% capacity) and Wicked ($2.76M, fully sold out), both holding steady as premium-priced mainstays. The Lion King remained a family powerhouse at $2.37M, while Mamma Mia! continued its strong revival run, rising to $1.91M at nearly 98% capacity. The week’s biggest climber among musicals was Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which surged $275K to $1.61M, reflecting growing momentum off the back of the release of the final season of the Netflix series.
Newer titles showed mixed but encouraging signs. Chess dipped modestly to $1.89M but continued to play above 96% capacity, while Maybe Happy Ending rebounded to $1.26M, returning to near-full houses. Among plays, Art remained one of the season’s strongest non-musical performers at $1.54M with virtually every seat filled, and Waiting for Godot stayed close behind at $1.29M. All Out: Comedy About Ambition opened at the Nederlander with a sold-out $409K across two performances. Compared to the same week last season, grosses were up 4.57%, signaling a healthy pre-Christmas runway as Broadway heads into its most lucrative stretch of the year.
