Broadway Grosses w/e 2/3/2019: Going Deep for the Deep Freeze
The week of The Superbowl is usually counted as one of the worst weeks of the year for Broadway shows. And this week’s well-below-zero-temps did not help. Overall grosses were down 12% and quite off the mark from this week last season (down 3.67%). Most shows posted significant drops compared to the previous week.
On Monday the Tony Award-winning show The Band’s Visit made a somewhat surprising closing announcement and will play its final performance in just two months prior to heading out on the road for a national tour.
