Podcast Episode 92 – The Artistic Director of MTC and Theater Hall of Famer, Lynne Meadow
If plays were oil, then Manhattan Theater Club would have one of the best wells in town. Just look at some of the plays that have come from its fertile ground: Love! Valour! Compassion!, Sylvia, Ain’t Misbehavin’, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Proof, Doubt, Rabbit Hole, Blackbird and so many more by the likes of Arthur Miller, Marsha Norman, Harold Pinter, Brian Friel, etc.
And the individual responsible for all of these plays getting fracked out of the ground, and into our artistic ecosystem is none other than its Artistic Director (since 1972!), Lynne Meadow.
Under Lynne’s incredible tenure, MTC’s productions have pulled in a whopping 19 Tonys, 6 Pulitzers, and over a 100 other awards. I mean, where the heck do you keep all those trophies?
I didn’t ask Lynne that . . . but I did ask her a whole bunch of other questions about how she built MTC into the institution it is today. Listen in to hear her talk about:
- The day she challenged The Yale School of Drama’s policy on accepting women (you won’t believe what they said to her)!
- How she creates a season . . . and how it’s not like going to a buffet.
- Why she is one of the few Artistic Directors of a major Non-Profit that actually directs!
- How to get your script in her hands.
- Starting a theater company? Hear her advice.
Tune into this master pod-class on . . . well . . . on so many things. Because Lynne is not only one of the few people that do it all . . . but she does it all so very, very well.
Enjoy!
