Directors wanted . . . for our Writer-Director Speed Date!
One of the most common questions I get via email and at my Get Your Show Off The Ground seminars (one is coming up next Saturday, by the way) is “How do I find a Director for my show?” I’ve got a bunch of tips for folks looking for Directors, and for my coaching and consulting clients, I’ve even been able to play matchmaker and set them up with one.
But what have I done for you lately?
If the folks in my seminars and in my private sessions have this problem . . . then that means there are probably a ton of other folks out there having the same issue.
And I’m sure there are a lot of Directors out there who are dying to get their hands on new work . . . the next Avenue Q or Doubt or Spring Awakening.
If only there were a Match.com for Writers and Directors . . .
Well, there isn’t.
But, there is The Producer’s Perspective Writer-Director Speed Date!!! (Insert loud cheers and applause here.)
Taking a cue from our own very successful Collaborator Speed Date of a couple of months ago (I know of at least three shows that made matches during that hot and sweaty night), we’re holding another one . . . but this time it’s for Writers (or anyone with a show) looking for Directors (or Producers) and Directors (or Producers) looking for Writers.
It’ll work the same way as the Collaborator Speed Date. You’ll register as a Writer or a Director. You’ll go through a series of quick convos with the opposite “sex” and hopefully, you’ll make a love connection. And hey, even if you don’t, it’s the BEST practice for learning how to pitch your project or yourself.
And of course, there will be a bar to loosen your lips before the pitching begins, and juice the networking after the dating is over.
The Writer-Director Speed Date will be held on November 4th from 7 PM – 9 PM.
Click here to register. And send this around to your friends. The more daters, the more collaborators. The more collaborators, the more theater. The more theater, the more awesome the world is.
