Why I Said Yes to Proof on Broadway in 2026 (And Why You Need to See It)
I don’t produce many plays.
When I do, they have to be super special – either something so unique (Alan Cumming’s one man Macbeth) or if a revival, a play that, well, makes me want to see plays!
When I first saw the original production of Proof, it had my mouth wide open at the twists and turns, and I was desperate to know what happened. It’s a “who-dunit” in a way.
When this production came around, I didn’t need much convincing.
But then I heard it was starring Don Cheadle and Ayo Edebiri, who I’ve been watching on screens and hoping that they’d one day tread our stages. And then there are our theater vets Jin Ha and Kara Young, who round out the quartet perfectly.
Add director Thomas Kail (from that little show you’ve never heard of called Hamilton) as well as lead producer Mike Bosner and my former Associate, Miranda Goh, and this was the team I wanted to be a part of.
I find that most of the shows I choose to get involved with now, whether they are a new musical or a Pulitzer Prize-winning play like this, had some kind of effect on me when I was younger (like Slumdog Millionaire).
And the amazing thing about a classic like Proof is when I saw it, put together by these terrific artists, it made me feel all the things I felt the first time I saw it. And more.
Oh, as a friend of mine said to me yesterday, it has one of the best first act closers in the history of playwriting.
Make sure to see this one, folks.
